Mercedes-Benz Chassis Code & Model Year Guide
Easily find your Mercedes-Benz chassis code, model generation and production years in one simple reference chart.
Mercedes-Benz uses internal chassis codes (W, C, S, A, X series) to identify each generation and body style of a model. These codes are much more accurate than just saying "C-Class" or "E-Class", and they are critical when choosing aftermarket parts such as front lips, diffusers, side skirts, spoilers and bumpers.
This guide gives you an easy reference for common Mercedes-Benz chassis codes and the approximate model years they were produced. Use this page to confirm your chassis before ordering parts for your build.
What Is a Mercedes-Benz Chassis Code?
A Mercedes-Benz chassis code is an internal designation used to identify the platform, generation, and body style of each model. The letter prefix tells you the body style:
- W — Sedan
- S — Estate / Wagon
- C — Coupe
- A — Cabriolet / Convertible
- X — SUV / Crossover
- R — Roadster
This means W205, C205, A205, and S205 are all the same C-Class generation — but four completely different body styles with different panel shapes and fitment requirements. Even within the same generation, many exterior parts are body-style specific. Always confirm both the chassis number and the body style prefix when ordering parts.
At JL Motoring, all products are listed by exact chassis code to help ensure proper fitment.

Why Chassis Codes Matter When Ordering Parts
Many Mercedes-Benz models share a similar name (for example, "C-Class" or "E-Class"), but their body shape, bumper design and mounting points can be completely different from generation to generation — and even between body styles within the same generation. A W204 front lip will not fit a W205. A W212 pre-facelift diffuser will not fit a W212 LCI. And a C205 coupe rear bumper will not fit a W205 sedan even though they share the same generation.
When you shop for parts such as carbon fiber front lips, rear diffusers, side skirts, trunk spoilers and bumpers, always match the exact chassis code and body style prefix to your vehicle. This is how we organize our Mercedes-Benz catalog at JL Motoring to help ensure proper fitment the first time.
